In this post we explore overcoming the challenges of being a work-from-home parent while trying to build a RockStar Empire. I’m doing this as a live video blog from the park because my three kids are playing behind me. Don’t worry they’re being supervised! I am doing this with a lapel mic and my iPhone to prove that you can do this from anywhere at anytime.
Let’s get into the four challenges that people commonly meet when they’re trying to build a RockStar Empire being a work-from-home parent.
1. Being Camera-Ready
A lot of us find that at the drop of a hat, we’re not ready to go on camera. That is a realistic challenge! The best way to meet that challenge is to actually wake up and get camera ready. You need to dress the part and be the part anyway! If you spend the time to do that, you’re going to move through your day and yes, you’re going to be ready to jump on camera for a piece of content, but you’re also going to feel better about yourself.
You’re going to start living that RockStar role and feeling good about yourself.
2. Finding Time to Record
Look at where I’m recording right in the video above. It’s actually not hard to find the time if you are motivated and dedicated. A lot of times I’ve recorded at night. I just make my family aware that this is my only time to record and they’re respectful of that. Just know that it’s a “season.”
Usually, when building a RockStar Empire, you’re producing a lot of content within a season. You have to work around the schedule to try and find a time. Just let your partner or significant other know that this is for a short time. Then, after this “season” find a way to work that into your regular schedule by scheduling out a time to produce content regularly.
3. Working Around Family Obligations
Working around family obligations can be difficult because it takes communicating with your family what you are doing. You have to make them aware of the season in which you are doing this, the end goal of what you’re trying to build, and work at opening up a door for communication.
A lot of times, you’re going to have to hire help in order to be able to record and build content. In my experience, you really can’t call upon family members all the time. I would call on family members in a pinch when it’s an emergency. Otherwise, go out and hire the help that you need. Just hire that help for when you need to dedicate time for that particular time to work on your Empire or if you need to record. You’ll find that if you hire help for just three or four hours, you’ll be very productive during that time because you’ve saved up everything for that moment and can just knock it out.
4. Staying Focused And On Task
Finally, finding that it’s difficult to stay on task or stay focused is a common challenge for a work-from-home parent trying to build a RockStar Empire. The best advice I have is to just do one thing. Just find one thing that you can do in a day.
I remember when my first son was born I was completely overwhelmed with all I had to do. My mom gave me the advice to just choose one thing to get done that day. I’ve carried with me to this day. I may have a list of four or five things I need to do, but I just try to accomplish one thing that day. In this way, I’m moving forward and I’m getting what I need to get done. Sometimes, I’ll get two or three things done, but at least I feel better just getting that one thing I needed to do accomplished.
Dedication and Motivation
Those are the four common challenges you’ll have building your own RockStar Empire being a work-from-home parent. As you can see in my video above, you make it work where you are. And if you’re dedicated and motivated enough, you can!
I hope you got a lot out of this blog, take this advice and take action.
As we say here at RockStar Empires, it’s now your turn to rock!
